About

Patients. Employees. Capital Assets.
Protect all three at the same time from EMI/RFI.

Human lives are in the balance. To ensure the health of your patients and staff, you must have complete confidence that your tools operate at their optimum performance and yield precise and dependable data for their entire lifespan.

Shield Your MRI From a Brain Freeze
Did you know that a subway a half-mile away can corrupt your data? We provide complete RF and magnetic mitigation solutions for diagnostic imaging, telemetry, and surgical environments. Electrophysiology tools, such as EEGs or EKGs are EMI-sensitive, and the quality of the recorded signal can become compromised. The same is true for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRIs), due to elevated quasi-static DC fields or 50/60Hz power distribution equipment. We’ll simulate, identify, and mitigate all your risks.

Anticipate Future Threats
Your EMI/RFI threats can change over time and it’s crucial to understand and anticipate what your threats are now and what they could become in the future. We’ve provided EMF protection for the Mayo Clinic, Yale University School of Medicine, NYU School of Medicine, Columbia University Mind Brain Institute and many others. We’d be happy to provide you with the same world-class level of service.

Services

Our Comprehensive Healthcare Protection

Whether it's a medical center, hospital or shared research/medical facility, we provide EMI testing, design support and mitigation solutions for MRIs, NMRs, even Electron Microscopes.

There are many factors to consider and no cookie-cutter solutions. To read more about our comprehensive services, click on one of the categories below. Better yet, call us at 1.540.286.1984, we’re happy to walk you through it.

Full-Spectrum EMF/RFI Testing

Full-spectrum DC, AC ELF, RF EMF Surveys & EMI/RFI EMF Testing

Whether it’s an existing lab, building or proposed building footprint, we collect indoor or outdoor baseline measurements for human health, medical diagnostic, and research equipment. Vitatech tests the following non-ionizing frequencies:

  • Geomagnetic/Static DC electric/magnetic frequency sources from (0 Hz – 10 Hz)
    • Sources Include: geomagnetic, electrified or diesel trains, vehicles, MRIs, NMRs, research/ramping magnets and processing equipment
  • AC ELF (extremely low frequency) electric/magnetic frequency sources from (3 Hz – 3000 Hz)
    • Sources Include: transmission/distribution lines, transformers, switchgears, busways, risers, conduits, panels, subways/trains, electronics, etc.
  • VLF (very low frequency) and LF (low frequency) frequency sources from 3 kHz – 30 kHz
    • Sources Include: electrotechnical equipment, high resolution display systems, florescent lighting systems, etc.
  • RF (radio frequency) electric/magnetic frequency sources from 14 kHz – 26 GHz
    • Source Include: mobile, marine, UHF/VHF, cell/PCS, radar, radio navigation services, government time radio stations, military communication, etc.
  • PQ (power quality) electrical sources (harmonics, voltage/current surges, etc.)

Medical Building Design Support

Building Design Support

Medically driven and shared research facilities around the globe are investing in site assessment services to evaluate the internal and external sources of EMF/RF for “clean bill of health” purposes. We examine possible EMI emissions in the proposed building systems that will compromise human occupied areas or medical and emergency diagnostic/research equipment from electrical and electromechanical distribution and infrastructure systems.

EMI/RFI design criteria will be recommended for building sites, health care centers, in-patient suites, triage centers, emergency rooms, and medical diagnostic facilites.

MRI and NMR Planning

Industry protocol requires posting of 5 Gauss warning signs in public and patient areas where potential exposure to the MRI 5 Gauss isoline could compromise implantable devices. Vitatech will review all siting and planning guides for MRIs, fMRIs, and NMRs and liaise with manufacturers to guarantee the horizontal and vertical isolines are within safe human limits.

To reduce the degradation of the MRI, fMRI, and NMR systems, prudent separation distance from electrical distribution, adjacent MRIs/NMRs, elevators, trains and more is highly suggested for precise and dependable data and preserving the integrity of the equipment. Additionally, Vitatech reviews structural and MEP drawings to identify the potential for magnetization of steel rebar.

EMI/RFI Mitigation

Vitatech provides prudent hospital/health care center recommendations for ensuring a low-level magnetic field environment for the hospital employees, patients and diagnostic equipment. We provide the following mitigation services for medical facilities:

  • Magnetic Shielding – reduces emissions from electrical sources and equipment with highly conductive magnetic shielding materials
  • Magnetic Field Cancellation System –  custom engineered single-axis magnetic field canceling system (MR K) Hyperlink
  • Setback Guidelines – define safe limits for human health or medical diagnostic equipment from EMF/RF sources, also known as prudent avoidance.
