Nanotechnology Center at UALR
2801 South University Avenue
Scientists throughout the world cooperating to find the latest innovation in nanotechnology can be found on the first floor of UALR’s Engineering Technology and Applied Science (ETAS) building where the Nanotechnology Center is housed.
Vitatech was contracted by the UALR to perform an EMI Site Assessment & Mitigation Study of an existing classroom to be rennovated for a placement of SEM/TEM Electron Microscopes in the ETAS building. UALR required a 0.1mG environment for optimal performance. The peak AC ELF emission recorded before shielding installation was 2.6-mG (Brms). Vitatech normally recommends less than 0.1 mGp-p (equivalent to 0.3 mG RMS) in the imaging rooms and 0.3 mGp-p (0.84 mG RMS) in clean room laboratory areas as the maximum acceptable EMI threshold for existing research tools.
The affected 800 sq.ft. laboratory shielding performance had a 0.1-mG requirement over 95% of the shielded area. After shield performance showed the room to have an average performance of 0.00-mG and a peak of 0.4-mG by the unshielded doorway.
